Dance group to attend residency in August

In August, dance artists Siiri Haatainen, Olga Kastemaa, and Pilvi Mäkeläinen will work in the Theatre Museum as artists in residency. During their residency, they will prepare the dance piece PULP (working title). PULP is not only a dance performance but also an experiential and performative installation that can be viewed like a moving artwork.

The intention is for PULP to be performed in public or semi-public spaces once completed, bringing dance art to different locations and audiences who may not be familiar with dance. At the Theatre Museum’s Maneesi, the group can prepare and rehearse their work in the presence of an audience and test audience interaction from the very beginning of the creative process.

The residency takes place in August 2025, and towards the end of the period, on Wednesday, August 27, an open demo performance will be organized for the public. More details about the performance and any other public program related to the residency will be announced in August.

Siiri Haatainen, Olga Kastemaa, and Pilvi Mäkeläinen have all recently graduated from the dance program at Riveria in Outokumpu. The group was formed after their shared studies and is interested in working across disciplines in dance, theatre, and sound design.

The Theatre Museum’s space residency program began in 2022. The group of Haatainen, Kastemaa, and Mäkeläinen is the eighth artist or artist group selected for the residency. The program offers the museum a way to connect with performing arts creators and gives artists a workspace and the opportunity for audience interaction during the rehearsal process. For our audience, the residency provides a unique glimpse into the creation of a work.
