Circus Adventure for 7–12-years-olds

Circus Adventure for 7–12-years-olds

In the Circus Adventure workshop, we dive into the world of circus, inspired by the fascinating life stories of circus artists.

We begin by exploring Amaze! Tales and Macig of Circus exhibition, which opens doors to different eras and forms of Finnish circus.

The work continues in small groups at activity stations. Each group receives an inspiring story from the life of a Finnish circus artist. How did a young man from Ruovesi end up as a circus performer after jumping on a train? What kind of act can be created with just the right mix of strength and cleverness? Where can practicing somersaults on a bull’s horns lead?

Inspired by these stories, groups reflect and experiment what creates the magic and sense of community in circus, what kind of training does circus require – for both body and mind, how can circus support growth and well-being?

Finally, each group performs its own version of the story for the others. Available resources include circus equipment suitable for safe museum use, theatre and circus costumes from the handling collection, or alternatively, puppet and shadow theatre stages – making even impossible tricks visible!

The shared circus adventure encourages imagination, cooperation, and courage. Core values of circus include community, individuality – and the freedom to fail.
