Sustainability at the Theatre Museum

We promote the heritage of performing arts

• The Theatre Museum’s mission is to preserve, research, teach and raise awareness of the cultural heritage of Finnish performing arts by highlighting theatre, dance, opera, circus and performance art.
• The Theatre Museum serves as the national responsibility museum for the performing arts.
• Our operations are governed by the Finnish Museums Act.

We care about our staff and visitors

• We treat everyone equally.
• We follow safer space principles and communicate these in our facilities. Our attendants and guides are trained in these principles.
• We address inappropriate behaviour and take action together according to agreed procedures.
• We provide information about the accessibility of our spaces.
• We offer our employees opportunities for training, professional development and career advancement.

We collaborate

• Together with the other two museums at the Cable Factory, we form the Cable Museums. We share a common lobby service and organise events together.
• Through partnerships with educational institutions, young people can participate in art projects and events at the Theatre Museum.
• We offer internships for university students in areas such as collections, archives and communications.
• We provide work try-outs for vocational rehabilitation.

We make responsible purchases

• The display cases in our exhibitions are acquired second-hand. Exhibition structures are designed to be reusable.
• Exhibitions feature furniture received from theatres, such as chairs and tables.
• At our own events, all catering is vegan and sourced from familiar local restaurants. We also recommend these restaurants to customers organising events in our spaces.

We care about the environment

• The Theatre Museum is easy to reach by public transport.
• Cable Factory has its own recycling for reusable items, and we participate in recycling networks. We sort all our waste.
• Cable Factory aims at a 10% energy savings target for 2026–2035 (Energy Efficiency Agreement for the Public Sector JETS).
• Cable Factory purchases wind-generated electricity for its tenants.
• Our collection facilities use entirely carbon-free energy.
