Frequently Asked Questions
How to get to the Theatre Museum?
The Theatre Museum is located at the Cable Factory at the wing closer to the sea. The entrance is from the Glass Courtyard side of the Cable Factory, through the Tehtaanmyymälä shop. Next to the Theatre Museum are the Hotel and Restaurant Museum and the Finnish Museum of Photography. The Theatre Museum is located on the second floor. (See detailed directions here).
How to buy a ticket?
Tickets can be purchased at the information desk in the Glass Courtyard. Admission fees are found here. We accept the Museum Card, available for purchase at the Ticket Office. Please present your Card at the reception to record your visit in our system. We also accept the Helsinki Card, Smartum Pay and Smartum’s recreational vouchers. Free admission on every last Wednesday evening of the month.
Will the admission fee include entrance to other museums?
The Finnish Museum of Photography and the Hotel and Restaurant Museum sell their separate tickets. However, the combination ticket includes entrance to all three museums. Access to all museums is free to Museum Card and Helsinki Card holders. Please present your Card at the reception.
Where can I leave my belongings for the visit?
Pass through the Tehtaanmyymälä to the museums’ shared lobby. There you will find coat racks as well as lockers. We kindly ask you to leave large bags and coats in the lobby. No deposit to operate the lockers is needed.
Is there a Museum Shop or a café?
The Theatre Museum does not have its own museum shop, but museum products are available at the Cable Factory Tehtaanmyymälä. The nearest cafés are Traba in the Glass Courtyard, Kahvibaari at the gateway leading to Cable Factory’s inner courtyard and Hima&Sali in staircase C, accessed through the court yard.
What can I do at the Theatre Museum?
You can explore our exhibitions by strolling through galleries at your own pace. You can also take a more active approach and try things out yourself. There are stages with dressing rooms, and puppets to try. Our visitors are encouraged to freely experiment on different elements and features of theatre.
Are the exhibitions suitable for everyone?
In Theatre Museum exhibitions there may be objects or photographs that provoke thought and move emotions. If you are particularly sensitive, or if your companion is, ask an exhibition supervisor for help or contact museum staff beforehand.
I came to the Museum and found the Arkadia Theatre is closed. Why don’t I have access to all areas?
Some of the exhibition galleries may be temporarily closed for a workshop or other activity. If you want to confirm full access during your visit, please contact the Exhibition Info before your visit on +358 (0)40 1922 300.
What are the workshops like, and who are they for?
We organize workshops for all ages throughout the year. Anyone can organize a group and book a workshop. Our sessions are great for entertaining a group of friends, giving a moment of relaxation for work colleagues, or adding a special feature to a birthday party. A facilitated workshop is an intensive and unique experience that is guaranteed to sweep you off your feet. Please see workshop descriptions on the For Groups page and book a session!
I don’t want to book a workshop, is there anything for solo visitors?
The Theatre Museum hosts various events throughout the year, which can be attended without prior reservation. For example, Family Days are organized twice a year for families with children, and guided storytelling adventures are held during school holidays. We also organize artist meetings, seminars, lectures, and performances, among other things.
Information about events is available on the Events page and on the Theater Museum’s Facebook page. Events are usually included in the price of the exhibition ticket, but sometimes a separate ticket is required for performances.
